FOR SPEAKERS & PRESENTERS

We are looking forward to the 2022 review course, and appreciate your involvement and hard work in order to make this a successful event! To assist you with preparation, please review the details below. 

Please also review the Objectives of Training provided by the Royal College for Adult Critical Care and Pediatric Critical Care, as well as the CanMEDS Special Addendum.

Our Planning Committee wants to ensure that future intensivists have the lens of equity, diversity, & inclusion in mind as they progress through whichever career paths they choose. As the presenter & teacher of future colleagues, incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion principles into your presentation is an important way to empower our critical care community. Please complete/submit all of the below requirements no later than 4 weeks prior to your scheduled talk

1. Speaker Agreement/Registration

Your speaker agreement/registration provides us with important details that are pertinent to a quick and smooth set up of a successful review program. We ask that you please complete your registration as soon as possible. To do so click the speaker registration button.
  • Complete your COI form beforehand and attach it to your speaker registration. You can retrieve the COI form by clicking here.
  • Review the Speaker Release for Video and Audio Recording and provide consent when completing the agreement/registration form. 


2. YOUR PRESENTATION & MCQs 

Presentations and MCQs must be received no later than 4 weeks prior to your scheduled talk, as they will be reviewed by the committee and returned to the speaker for final edits, if necessary. Presentations & MCQs are to be sent to events@secretariatcentral.com.

Presentation Guidelines

1. Disclosure slide

A disclosure slide must be submitted with your presentation. This slide is to be inserted at the beginning of your presentation and any disclosures or lack thereof must be verbally stated.

2. Learning Objectives Slide

You must include 2-3 learning objectives at the beginning of your presentation. Key information about expectations for learning objectives can be found here. 

* Please avoid verbs that are often used but are open to many interpretations: appreciate, have faith in, know, learn, understand, believe. Click here for a link to suggested verbs.

3. EDI Slide

Include this equity, diversity and inclusion slide following your learning objectives. Consider how you will incorporate EDI  throughout your presentation.

4. MCQs 

A minimum of 5 multiple choice questions are to be asked throughout your presentation. Please review the MCQ instructions on how to submit. 

Please Note:
  • A minimum of 25% of your presentation time must be interactive.
  • Attendees have requested that slides are on a light background, with clear graphics and legible font so that they can be easily read when printing. 
  • Generic, rather than trade names, must be used in presentations.
  • Branding or sponsor logos are not allowed in presentation slides.
  • It is important to write references on slides and incorporate evidence if possible. 
  • Include discussion of commonly encountered barriers to practice change.
  • Speakers must comply with the Rx&D Code of Ethical Practices
  • Speakers must comply with the The Canadian Medical Association’s (CMA’s) policy guidelines on physicians’ interactions with industry
  • Do not forget to include the required disclosure slides at the beginning of your session. Declarations must be verbalized at the start of your presentation. 

MCQ Instructions

A minimum of 5 multiple choice questions (MCQs) are to be asked throughout your presentation.

1. Input your questions into the MCQ submission template. This document will be used for merging your MCQs into the online system Poll Everywhere.

1. Each line on the spreadsheet is one question

    • Column C: “Title” = your questions
    • Columns D through G: “Option” = possible answers

2. Input one question per row in Column C. Input each possible answer in the same row as the pertaining question

3. Indicate the correct answer by putting 3 asterisks (***) in front of the correct answer

    • The asterisks will not appear in the onscreen poll when merged.

4. When you are satisfied with your questions, save the document as a CSV (comma delimited) file with your name in the file name. Ex. “CCCR MCQ – John Smith”

    • The following message will likely appear. Always click “Yes”

2.  Insert a question placeholder slide found here where you want the questions to be asked in your presentation. SC will be running Poll Everywhere for each speaker, you will not be responsible for launching the polls. 

3. A references slide must be included to provide participants with further reading on your MCQs' correct answers.

3. DAY OF YOUR PRESENTATION 

CONTENT DUE DATE: Tuesday, April 5, 2022. 

Please send a copy of your FINAL presentation as a pdf, along with any handouts, to events@secretariatcentral.comAll presentations and handouts must be received by by Tuesday, April 5, 2022. This material will be made available to delegates in a password protected area of the CCCR website prior to the conference.

You are responsible for bringing your final presentation on a USB (PowerPoint format) to your session. There will be a technician in the room where you are scheduled to speak that will assist in loading your presentation. Please be sure to visit the technician during the break prior to your presentation. Do not forget to include the required disclosure slides at the beginning of your session. Declarations must be verbalized at the start of your presentation.

Handouts

The CCCR does not print handouts for speakers. If you have handouts please send to events@secretariatcentral.com by Tuesday, April 5, 2022. They will be made available on the course portal and delegates will be notified to print in advance. 

Audio Visual

Your session room will be equipped with the following:

  • Screen
  • Projector
  • Laptop (PC)
  • Podium + mic
  • Slide aspect ratio is 16:9 for PowerPoint presentations

The Canadian Critical Care Society (CCCS) is the National Specialty Society, representing Adult and Paediatric Critical Care Medicine physicians in Canada. The practice of Critical Care Medicine in Canada is multidisciplinary and CCCS members hold base specialty certification in anaesthesia, medicine, paediatrics, emergency medicine or surgery and some surgical subspecialties such as cardiac surgery and neurosurgery.
