1. ESICM Guidelines on End of Life and Palliative Care in the Intensive Care Unit presented by Dr. James Downar

This ESICM Guideline provides evidence-based recommendations and expert opinion about:

  • End-of-life (EoL) and palliative care for critically ill adults to optimize patient-centered care, improving outcomes of relatives, and supporting intensive care unit staff in delivering compassionate and effective EoL and palliative care.

2. SCCM Guideline on Recognizing and Responding to Clinical Deterioration Outside the ICU presented by Dr. Kimia Honarmand

This 2024 SCCM Clinical Practice Guideline provides evidence based recommendations on:

  • Early recognition of patients hospitalized outside the ICU who are at-risk for critical illness
  • Prompt mobilization of appropriate resources to improve their care, including Rapid Response Systems

The Canadian Critical Care Society (CCCS) is the National Specialty Society, representing Adult and Paediatric Critical Care Medicine physicians in Canada.
