N-ACES CRITICAL CARE ULTRASOUND COURSE

July 9

Course Location

Canadian Museum for Human Rights

85 Israel Asper Way

Winnipeg, MB

About the Course

Expert faculty will provide you with first-class support to help you build skills in bedside ultrasound to help recognize and intervene on various states of critical illness.

The overall learning objectives for this event are to provide advanced practitioners (post-graduate trainees and faculty) with specific ultrasound skills to both perform and interpret at the point-of-care in a critically ill patient. With this in mind, our objectives are specifically focused on cardio-respiratory applications of point-of-care ultrasound. Broadly speaking, at the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Perform and interpret advanced techniques in cardiac ultrasound, along with lung ultrasound, to assist investigation of severely ill patients (medical expert, communicator, collaborator, health advocate, scholar, professional).
2. Clinically integrate heart and lung findings, along with clinical details, to assemble a coherent clinical assessment (medical expert, communicator, collaborator, health advocate, scholar, professional).

At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Perform a critical care echo to assess the key cardiac structures to identify and characterize an array of life-threatening conditions including pericardial tamponade, LV failure, RV failure, pulmonary hypertension and complications of venous thromboembolism etc.
  • Integrate colour and spectral Doppler assessment to identify and characterize a range of life-threatening conditions including ventricular failure, cor pulmonale, dynamic obstruction, and gross valvular diseases.
  • Clinically integrate cardiac ultrasound findings to aid in diagnosis and management of life-threatening illnesses in the acutely unwell patient.
